Retransplantation
Evidence level: guideline abstract only; retrospective multicentre cohort (abstract only)
Repeat lung transplantation, named in the 2014 BOS guideline abstract and studied in a multicentre cohort by CLAD phenotype.
As of . Primary source: Verleden et al. 2015 (DOI).
Summary
The abstract of the 2014 ISHLT/ATS/ERS guideline lists re-transplantation among the interventions on which the committee made specific recommendations; the recommendation itself was not read for this record. The 2015 retrospective cohort of Verleden and colleagues, recorded on this site, analysed 143 patients who received a repeat lung transplant for CLAD at four centres between 2003 and 2013 (94 with BOS and 49 with restrictive CLAD). According to its abstract, survival after retransplantation was worse for restrictive CLAD than for BOS (unadjusted hazard ratio 2.60, 95 percent confidence interval 1.59 to 4.24), and the authors recommend careful discussion of retransplantation for restrictive CLAD. This record describes the literature only and gives no advice.
